Two  men are in custody this evening after a drive-by shooting in Limerick last night.

Shots were fired at three homes on Lenihan Avenue in the Prospect area of the city at 8.30 p.m. No one was injured.

Gardai immediately set up checkpoints in the area and arrested a 20 year-old man shortly before midnight.

A second man in his early 20s was arrested at a city centre flat in this afternoon.

They are now being held at under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

There have been a series of shooting incidents in that area of the city recently that are believed to be connected to a dispute between rival criminal gangs on the southside of the city.

This is separate a dispute to the northside feud that led to the murder of Kieran Keane in January last year.
