Two men have been arrested over the death of a man who is believed to have been assaulted in a park in Limerick city early this morning.

The man, believed to be in his early 40s, was found injured in Arthur's Quay Park at around 4.30 a.m.

He was taken to the Regional Hospital in Limerick where he died from his injuries shortly afterwards.

Two men, both 19 years old, have been arrested and are currently being detained at Henry Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The scene of the assault is been preserved pending a technical examination.
