The Taoiseach and British Prime Minister reviewed the current situation in Northern Ireland in a telephone conversation yesterday. Mr Ahern and Mr Blair later welcomed the fact that the Garvaghy Road residents in Portadown and Orange Order representatives were attending proximity talks which resumed at 6.30 p.m. yesterday evening. They hoped that both sides would use the opportunity to resolve the issue.

The two leaders expressed their determination to press on with implementing the Belfast Agreement during a stock-taking discussion which lasted 30 minutes.
