Two people have died following separate road incidents in the North overnight.

Two people have died following separate road incidents in the North overnight.

A girl aged 16 died in a hit-and-run incident in Belfast. She has been named as Deborah McComb of Glenalina Park, Ballymurphy.

The incident happened at 10.15 p.m. last night at the junction of the Whiterock and Springfield Roads in West Belfast.

The PSNI said a car struck the girl and sped off. After the incident the driver injured two girls out walking on the Springfield Road, New Barnsley.

Police are examining a maroon-coloured Vauxhall Nova, registration RDZ 2695, located in Norfolk drive shortly after the collision.

In a separate incident, a man aged 29 died following a collision between a van and a car at the junction of York St and Westlink in Belfast.

He was named as Patrick THomas Jervis, of 29 High Street, Ardglass.

The incident happened at around 2 a.m. Mr Jervis was the driver of the car. The female passenger in the car is said to be in a critical condition.

The driver and passenger of the van were not physically hurt.

The PSNI has appealed for witnesses to contact them.
