Gardai at Birr Garda Station are investigating a crash at 11.30pm last night at Clooneen, Cloghan, Birr, Co Offaly.

A 15-year-old boy died when the van in which he was a passenger hit a tree. Four other occupants of the van were injured.

In Longford, a lorry-driver was killed when his vehicle left the road at Newtownforbes, Co Longford at 4.30 a.m.
