Two men who attacked a man with a hammer and hatchet have been jailed for six years at Cork Circuit Criminal Court

Two men who attacked a man with a hammer and hatchet have been jailed for six years at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. Two of the years are suspended.

Keith Desmond (19), and Michael O'Keeffe (18), Blackpool, Cork, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting a 19-year-old man last year.

The teens, armed with a hammer, a hatchet and a sword, attacked Mr Noel Buckley in Cork city on April 9th, 2000. Garda John McDonagh told the court Mr Buckley suffered severe facial and head injuries as a result.

The youths were also involved in the robbery of Marian Stores, in Richmond Hill, Cork city on June 21st, 2000.Judge Patrick J. Moran said the youths had subjected the shopkeeper at Marian Stores to a frightening experience. He imposed a six-year sentence on the teenagers suspending the last two years.
