Gardaí have arrested two people in connection with a raid on a post office in Ballinlough, Co Roscommon yesterday.
The two - a man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s - were detained yesterday evening and are currently being held at Castlerea Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
During the raid a three-man gang terrorised a female employee before escaping with about €6,000 from the post office in the village of Granlahan at about 10am yesterday.
The masked men entered the post office and bundled the female member of staff into a back room where she was detained. The men then made their getaway in a green Nissan Almera with an 01 LH registration.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them at Castlerea Garda station 094-9621630 or on the Garda Confidential Line 1800- 666111.
Gardaí are also trying to establish if there is any link between this raid and one on a shop about 80kms away in Ballinasloe in Co Galway last Thursday.
On that occasion a gang of five men threatened staff and customers at Dolan’s supermarket at Kilgarve on the Athlone road.
