Two men have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a post office in Co Westmeath this morning.
Gardaí are investigating the raid which occurred at the post office in Tyrrellspass shortly before 9.30am.
A Garda spokesman said that two men armed with a knife and a sledgehammer entered the premises and threatened staff before leaving with an amount of cash. Nobody was injured during the raid.
Gardaí later arrested two men in their 20s as part of a follow up operation.

They are being held at Mullingar Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.
An amount of cash and some implements used in the robbery have been recovered.
