Two held over Cork burglaries

Gardaí in Cork have arrested two men after a series of aggravated burglaries in the town of Youghal early this morning.

Shortly after 2am, two men broke into the home of a shopkeeper, assaulted him and tied up.

The victim, a man in his 60s, managed to free himself and raise the alarm.

Later at around 6am, a publican in the town was assaulted by two men during a robbery at his house.

Gardaí were alerted and one of the men was arrested at the scene. The second man was detained a short time later.

A garda spokesman said the men are in their early 20s and are being held in Midleton Garda Station.
