Two held over €150,000 drugs seizure in Cork

Gardaí in Cork arrested two men for questioning following the seizure of €150,000 worth of cannabis when they stopped and searched a taxi in the Carrigaline area.

Officers from the Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad backed up by local gardaí stopped and searched the taxi in Ballyfeard near Carrigaline at about 4.30pm.

They found 25 kilos of cannabis resin with a street value of €150,000, while in a follow-up search of a house in the area they found cannabis plants with a street value of €5,000.

Gardaí arrested a 41-year-old taxi driver from Dublin and a 37-year-old man from Cork and brought them to Togher Garda station for questioning about the drugs.

Both men were arrested under drug trafficking legislation which allows gardai detain suspects for up to seven days before they have to be charged or released.

Gardai believe the drugs had come from Dublin and were destined for distribution in the local Cork city market.
