Two gardaí attacked while on Cork patrol

Two gardaí were attacked by three men while they were on patrol in Cork city at the weekend.

Two gardaí were attacked by three men while they were on patrol in Cork city at the weekend.

The gardaí were assaulted as they patrolled Drawbridge Street between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday evening.

The female garda was kicked and treated for superficial injuries.  Her male colleague was knocked unconscious and is still under observation in hospital. His condition is described as stable.

Three men were arrested shortly afterwards and will appear before Cork District Court on September 1st in relation to the attack.

Gardaí in the area expressed shock at the attack and particularly at the fact that it happened during daylight.
