A man and a woman arrested during a concerted move against dissident republicans on Monday have been released, the PSNI said last night.

Eight other people taken into custody, following what Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde called a major operation involving police and security service help across Europe, are still being questioned, it is understood.

The PSNI have confirmed that following searches carried out on Monday in the Lettergreen Road area of Donagh, Co Fermanagh, a number of items have been recovered.

A spokeswoman said: "These include a handgun, a quantity of explosive material and other items for use in the manufacture of explosive devices."

Inquiries in Europe are ongoing and officers of the PSNI are continuing to assist French police carrying out a search, she added.

Searches at eight locations across Armagh and Fermanagh were carried out by 200 police officers, with support from the British army on Monday.

A police operation in France is also continuing into what the PSNI believes is a conspiracy to buy and import weapons.
