A Co Wexford bakery and a restaurant in Co Kildare were ordered to close last month due to hygiene breaches, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said today.
The closure orders were served on Murrays Fresh Bread Ltd, Churchview, Clonleigh, Palace, Enniscorthy and Seeta Restaurant, Dublin Road, Naas.
Such orders are issued when it is deemed that there is or there is likely to be "a grave and immediate danger to public health" at or in the premises. They can refer to the immediate closure of all or part of the food premises, or all or some of its activities.
FSAI chief executive John O'Brien urged increased vigilance by food business operators. He warned that the warmer weather during the summer season brings an increased risk in cases of food poisoning and reminded food businesses to refrigerate food to the correct temperatures.
"During warmer weather, strict adherence to hot and cold temperature controls is important, as bacteria can double every 20 minutes at room temperature," he said. " Hot food should be kept in a hot holding cabinet, and cold food should be chilled and kept chilled until required for use."
