Two escape injury after shots fired

TWO MEN have escaped uninjured after they were shot at at a petrol station in what gardaí believe was a feud-related incident.

The men had pulled into McKiernan’s Texaco service station on Crumlin Road, Crumlin, south Dublin, at 9.30pm on Sunday when they were attacked.

A 4X4 vehicle carrying a number of occupants pulled in behind the men’s car. One of the people in the 4X4 produced what gardaí believe was a double-barrel shotgun.

Shots were discharged at the targets’ vehicle before the men in the 4X4 sped from the scene.

Gardaí believe the attackers were following the two men and decided to shoot at them when then pulled into the garage.

Gardaí were alerted immediately the incident took place. The scene was sealed off and examined yesterday by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.

No arrests have been made and the firearm used in the attack has not been recovered.

Gardaí are hopeful CCTV taken from cameras in the station will assist them in identifying the attackers.

Gardaí believe the shooting was most likely intended to intimidate the men rather than an attempt to murder them.

Crumlin has seen increased gangland violence in recent years because of a feud between two drugs gangs from the Crumlin and Drimnagh area which has claimed 14 lives directly or indirectly.

However, gardaí investigating the latest shooting do not believe it is linked to the main Crumlin-Drimnagh feud.

Sources said the shooting is linked to a row between members of the Travelling community.

They believe the main target of the shooting is a 24-year-old man who lives in the Kylemore area. Those suspected of carrying out the shooting are from Clondalkin in west Dublin.
