Two British soldiers were killed in an attack on a military convoy in the southern Iraqi city of Basra today.

Two British soldiers were killed in an attack on a military convoy in the southern Iraqi city of Basra today.

A British army spokesman said the first vehicle in a convoy of two armoured Land Rovers was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.

As soldiers from the second vehicle were trying to rescue those hit, they came under attack from small arms fire.

The two soldiers in the first Land Rover later died in hospital, the British army spokesman said.
