Pakistan police said today they had arrested two people they believe sent e-mails containing photographs of kidnapped US journalist Daniel Pearl in captivity.

They were arrested during a raid on a house in Gulistan-e-Juhar, in the eastern districts of the southern port city of Karachi, a police source said.

He said police "believed" the two sent e-mails last week which contained photos of Pearl, one with a gun to his head, but would not release their names.

Police earlier today identified three people as suspects in the abduction of Pearl, a Wall Street Journalcorrespondent who disappeared on January 23rd in Karachi.

They were Muslim militants Mohammad Hashim Qadeer, Mohammad Bashir and Imtiaz Siddiqui.

The search for Pearl has been clouded by a series of e-mails, most of which have been dismissed as hoaxes.

Police have said the only correspondence they now believe to be genuine are e-mails containing photos of Pearl, of which the last was received six days ago.
