Two people arrested in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Swords, Co Dublin, on Saturday were still in custody last night. The victim of the shooting, named locally as Nathan Daly, was in a stable condition, according to Beaumont Hospital.
The 36-year-old man and 16-year-old boy in custody.
They were being held separately under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Swords and Malahide Garda stations.
Under the Act, they can be held until tonight before being charged or released.
The two were arrested in the area of the shooting shortly after it happened at 8.20pm on Saturday night.
Daly was walking through St Cronan's Close estate with three friends, all locals, towards nearby River Valley Park when his group was approached by the attackers.
One of the attackers shouted something at the four boys and opened fire with a shotgun. The victim was wounded twice in the upper body.
A witness called the emergency services and he was taken by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital. His condition was initially described as critical.
The gunman and his accomplice ran from the scene. Gardaí sealed off the scene and it was examined yesterday by officers from the technical bureau.
Detectives do not believe the wounded boy or any of his three friends was the intended victim of the attack.
Gardaí are working on the theory that the attackers were looking for another boy in connection with an earlier dispute over damage to a motorbike.
A spokeswoman for Beaumont Hospital said the boy was now in a stable condition.
