Two men were arrested after members of an RUC patrol fired shots during an incident in Derry, close to the Border with Co Donegal yesterday morning.
Shortly before 10.30 a.m. the patrol saw two men transferring items from one vehicle to another at Windmill View, close to the Molennan area. When challenged by the officers, they reversed a car in the direction of the patrol. The police shouted several warnings before they fired two shots.
An RUC spokesman said two men were arrested at the scene and contraband cigarettes, counterfeit CDs and computer games were seized.
The two men were interviewed by the police and were later released on police bail.
