A minute of social media silence in honour of the victims of last week’s shooting and bomb attack in Norway was held at 5pm.
The #twinutesilence campaign was by four Dublin-based men and had generated a huge amount of attention across the world over the last few days.
The campaign called on people not to use any social media for one minute in order to create an online silence "in memory of the lives lost and the families and friends left behind in Norway after Friday's bomb attack and shooting massacre in Oslo".
The campaign wanted people to use the silence "to stop and reflect on the lives lost and the families and friends left behind in Norway".
The organisers used their Twitter and Facebook accounts to contact politicians and celebrities in order to get global support for their campaign and within hours of the initiative being launched on Tuesday, #twinutesilence was trending in Ireland, Norway and Sweden.
Celebrities in the UK and Ireland had been retweeting the plea to their followers.
