A US-Turkish military statement has expressed regret at a row over the arrest of Turkish commandos by US troops in Iraq, state-run Anatolian news agency reported.

US troops arrested the 11 commandos in northern Iraq on July 4th, triggering what Turkey described as a "crisis of trust" between Ankara and Washington. The men were released two days later.

The statement, avoiding recrimination, appeared to reflect a desire by both sides to put the dispute that had soured already tense relations behind them.
