Turkish mayor on the run

Diyarbakir - Turkish police are searching for a local mayor on the run from a sentence of more than 17 years in jail for heroin trafficking close to the Iranian border, a police official said yesterday. Hasan Taser, a mayor in the eastern province of Hakkari, was sentenced after more than 80 kg of heroin with a market value of $515,000 was seized from a council lorry last year. Taser has been missing since the drugs were seized.
