Tullow Oil has signed a joint venture with the Gabonese government for exploring an offshore oilfield in the north of the African nation.
The Kiarsseny Marin concession lies mainly in shallow water and contains a number of existing small oil discoveries as well as new opportunities, Tullow said.
Tullow will evaluate the large body rapidly and plans to start the first of two commitment exploration wells within a year.
