CHITTAGONG - Thousands of Bangladeshi troops were deployed yesterday to help run the port city of Chittagong, crippled by an opposition led campaign to bring down the government.

The Prime Minister, Begum Khaleda Zia, called in the armed forces after her swearing in for a second term on Tuesday triggered fierce battles between police and activists.
