Austria is surrounded by seven countries: Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. If you haven't got a credit card, you'd be well advised to carry small amounts of cash in the relevant currencies, otherwise you'll find yourself aimlessly roaming around non-Austrian streets with nothing to spend but time waiting for the next bus out of there.
