Gardai in Tramore, Co Waterford, are investigating the rape of a woman in the town over the holiday weekend

Gardai in Tramore, Co Waterford, are investigating the rape of a woman in the town over the holiday weekend. The 25-year-old woman, from the midlands, was raped at about 3.30 a.m. on Monday in the vicinity of Railway Square in the town centre.

She had met a man earlier at a disco which she attended with some female friends. Supt John Howard said the woman, who had been on holidays in Waterford and was visiting Tramore for the evening, went for a walk with the man.

The rape took place behind an old railway station, near the town's amusement park. Supt Howard appealed for anyone who noticed anything unusual in the area between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. to contact the Garda.

He said the woman had received medical treatment and had returned home.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tramore Garda station at 051-381333, or any Garda station.
