Members of the Irish Council of People with Disabilities are to be trained in advocacy and negotiating skills by SIPTU. Launching the scheme yesterday, SIPTU president, Mr Jimmy Somers, said that 90 per cent of people with disabilities are still unemployed and denied equal access to most areas of Irish life. "We must use the current economic boom to tackle problems like low pay and social exclusion, rather than pursue narrow sectional interests," he said.
