Kuala Lumpur - Some 21 hostages taken by Philippine Muslim extremists were safe but had been separated into different groups in villages around Talipao on Jolo island, according to the governor of Mindanao, Mr Nur Misuari.

The group was abducted at gunpoint from the diving resort island of Sipadan, off Sabah, on Sunday.
