As Labour looked set to put education at the top of their day's agenda, senior Tories were unveiling a poster campaign which will spell out what they say is Labour's failure - in the words of the country's public servants.
Labour came under fire from Mr William Hague yesterday over the threat from family doctors to resign en masse from the NHS.
The Tory leader - in a bid to shift the agenda from an alleged split in his party over his preoccupation on the euro - seized on a ballot by GPs warning they would quit in 10 months' time if their new contracts were not in place.
Mr Hague was due to spend the day campaigning in his constituency of Richmond, North Yorks.
The Tories were claiming that on law and order, health and education, recruitment and retention has suffered and morale is low under a Labour government.
Mr Hague last night remained confident he can the election, telling The Sun: "I will walk into Downing Street next Friday."
He said he has already issued Whitehall with a list of immediate priorities to be enacted on June 8th.
