A Co Mayo angler won the 33rd Lough Conn and Cullin Irish wetfly trout angling festival held over the Whit weekend. The four day competition attracted 344 anglers who brought in 350 fish. Most fish were caught on the mayfly. The winner received a 19 foot Sheelin boat and a 9.9 h.p. engine sponsored by Duffys of Headford.

Overall winners 1, Patrick Munroe (Partry), 3 fish weighing 6.20lb 2, P.J. Hallinan (Ballina), 3 fish weighing 5.49lb 3, A. Shaw (Sligo), 4 fish weighing 5.49lb.

Friday winner Seamus Kelly (Cloghans), 2 fish weighing 2.8llb. Saturday Christy Sleator, 3 fish weighing 6.46lb.

Sunday Bert Atkins, 3 fish weighing 7.85lb.

Heaviest fish Bert Atkins (3.94lb).
