Children under the age of three should not be allowed, unsupervised, to use toothpaste with fluoride. That is one of the likely recommendations expected when the Government-appointed National Forum on Fluoride reports at the end of October.

Dental health had improved greatly during the past 40 years, according to the Minister of State at the Department of Health, Dr Tom Moffatt. While adding fluoride to public water supplies had helped, "nowadays people tend to use toothpaste with fluoride added also".
