Gardaí are satisfied that the deaths of an elderly couple in their Co Tipperary home were not suspicious after the completion of postmortems today.
The elderly couple, who were both in their 70s, were found dead at their home about four miles from Tipperary town yesterday.
The discovery was made just after 3pm in the Mount Bruce area of Co Tipperary. The emergency services were called and when gardaí arrived on the scene the house was immediately sealed off.
Members of the Garda Technical Bureau were informed and carried out an examination of the house.
The possibility that they died from accidental gas inhalation has not been ruled out by gardaí.
There are believed to have been no signs of a break-in at the house and there were no visible marks on the bodies of either of the two victims. The property showed no signs of having been robbed.
Gardaí believe the couple may have been in the process of cooking a meal at the time that their deaths took place. The nature of the Garda investigation will become clear when the results of the post mortems become known.
However, Garda sources said foul play was regarded as unlikely at this stage.
