US: The Bush inauguration takes place at noon in Washington DC, the US federal capital, (5 p.m. Irish time) when Mr Bush recites the presidential oath at the bidding of the chief justice of the Supreme Court.

Afterwards, Mr Bush makes his inaugural address. At 2 p.m., the president and Mrs Bush return to the White House. The inauguration will be shown live on BBC1 TV from 4.30p.m., on BBC 24, the BBC satellite news channel, and on Sky News. RTÉ does not plan to show the inauguration live but will cover it in news broadcasts and on Prime Time, on RTÉ 1 after the 9 p.m. news.
