Rome - The Italian Defence Minister, Mr Beniamino Andreatta, said yesterday he had tightened the rules governing low-level flights after a US military plane sheared through cable car lines last week killing 20 people.
Mr Andreatta said the altitude threshold for flights over Italy's northern plain, immediately south of the mountains where last week's accident happened, had been lifted from 500 feet to 1,000 feet. The threshold for "tactical areas" used for specialist training missions would remain at between 250 and 500 feet.
