Three men who were arrested today by Gardaí investigating an alleged vigilante-style abduction of a man in Kerry before Christmas have been released without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
A group calling itself "Concerned Parents Against Drugs" had claimed responsibility for the abduction on December 7th.
During the incident the abducted man's six-year-old daughter was left on the road in Castleisland at around 6 p.m. when four masked men bundled her father into the back of his own car and drove him to a remote area in Lyracrumpane, before burning the car and beating him.
The three were arrested at their homes in the Castleisland area. They were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Killarney Garda Station.
Mr James Sheehan, the Sinn Féin director of elections in Kerry North, was arrested yesterday as part of the same investigation. He was released last night without charge.
Yesterday, Sinn Fein's director of elections for North Kerry James Sheehan was arrested as part of the same investigation. He was later released.
Mr Ferris described the arrest of his colleague as "an outrageous interference in the political process."
