AN RUC detective told Magherafelt court in Co Derry yesterday that a young couple in a mixed marriage who were intimidated out of their home in the Protestant village of Tobermore have no intention of returning.
The incident occurred early on July 13th last, and three local men who admitted the offence of intimidation were each jailed for four months.
They are Martin Raymond Lee (22) and Gareth Henry Patterson (25), both of Castle Park, and Roy Gregory Moore (25), of Mill Crescent. Bail was fixed for the purpose of appeal.
A prosecuting lawyer said the couple purchased their home on June 2nd last. He said that at 1.50 am on July 13th they were woken by a noise at the front door.
A number of men were kicking the door and shouting abuse such as "No Fenians in Calmore Park". The men issued threats, telling the couple they had two hours to leave or they would be burned out.
