KAMPALA – Gunfire rang out in the Ugandan capital yesterday and at least three people were killed as security forces clashed with rioters for a second day.

The violence was triggered by land and power disputes between President Yoweri Museveni’s government and leaders of Buganda, one of the country’s four kingdoms.

A deputy police spokesman said 50 people had been hospitalised and about the same number arrested. Police also said four people had been killed on Thursday in similar clashes. – (Reuters)
