Strathclyde Police confirmed that a fatal accident happened off Tarbert on the shores of the Loch Fyne, Argyll, at around 1.45am. It is understood the boat hit rocks when it was about 300 yards from shore.

A helicopter was scrambled from Prestwick to search for survivors.

The boat was towed ashore where the injured were freed and taken to hospital. It is thought two people were thrown into the water and another four became trapped in the vessel's wheelhouse.
