Three people are being questioned today after herbal cannabis worth €200,000 and cocaine worth €100,000 was seized in Dublin.

The cannabis was seized in Dublin airport, while the cocaine was found in follow-up searches of a house in Blanchardstown. The seizure was part of an operation by the Garda National Drugs Unit and the Revenue's Customs Service targetting a west African drugs gang.

The operation began when the herbal cannabis was discovered in the suitcase of a 48-year-old British woman who had arrived in Dublin airport on a flight from South Africa via Frankfurt, Germany.

The follow-up searches of the house resulted in the discovery of 1.5kgs of cocaine and mixing agents. A 32-year-old South African woman and a 29-year-old Nigerian man were also arrested in the follow-up operation.
