Three people were killed in separate car crashes over the weekend, while two hit-and-run incidents in Cork and Navan left five people with serious injuries.
An 80-year-old woman died in a crash in Mayo yesterday morning. The car in which she was a passenger collided with another at Drumlong, Newport near Castlebar at 11.45am. Four others were injured in the crash.
A 21-year-old man was killed in a crash on the M2 motorway, near Templepatrick, Co Antrim, in the early hours of yesterday morning. He was named by the PSNI as Timothy Fulton, Shellinghill Road in Cullybackey, Co Antrim. Police in the North said the crash happened when the car left the motorway shortly before 2.30am.
Four other men were injured. One of the men remains seriously ill but stable, while two are continuing to receive treatment. The fourth man was released from hospital yesterday.
Christopher Coary (19), Coole Road, Coalisland, Co Tyrone, was killed in a crash in the county on Friday. The car he was travelling in was involved in a crash with a mobile crane being driven on the Tandragee Road outside Pomeroy.
A hit-and-run driver in Cork seriously injured two men and left two women with minor injuries yesterday.
The four pedestrians were hit by a car as they walked past the junction of Togher Road and the Westside Estate in Cork at around 12.50am.
The driver of a red car mounted a footpath and ploughed into the pedestrians before making off. A 24-year-old man who was dragged by the car is in a serious condition in Cork University Hospital. Another man, aged 22, was also seriously injured. Gardaí are appealing to the public for information.
In a second incident, a woman was left with serious leg injuries when she was hit by a car as she walked along Academy Street in Navan at about 2.45am yesterday. She is in a stable condition in hospital.
