Three men have been arrested following a high speed pursuit along the M1 motorway in Dublin earlier this evening.
Gardaí intercepted a car which they believe had been involved in criminal activity earlier today in Northern Ireland and pursued it towards Dublin.
Gardaí attempted to ram the car near the M1/M50 junction.
A number of Garda cars were damaged during the incident which resulted in the M1 being closed southbound at the M50 junction for a number of hours to facilitate the investigation.
Three men were arrested at the scene and are currently detained at Ballymun Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Investigations are continuing.
AA Roadwatch said northbound lanes have now reopened but the M1 southbound is still affected. There have been no reports of any casualties.
