Swimming:Australia's Ian Thorpe today finished seventh in the 100m individual medley final at the World Cup event in Singapore on his comeback to competitive swimming.
The 29-year-old, a freestyle specialist with five Olympic gold medals to his name, finished second in his heat in a time of 56.74 seconds to qualify sixth fastest for the final.
And though he improved his time to 56.33secs in the final, he could do no better than seventh as South Africa’s South African Chad le Clos won in 53.06s.
Thorpe quit the sport in 2006 but recently announced his intention to come back with the aim of competing at next year’s London Olympics.
