John Terry has admitted his future may lie away from Stamford Bridge if his new contract is not resolved sooner rather than later.
Central defender Terry joined up with the England squad today for Thursday's friendly international in South Africa. But the 22-year-old, who has two years remaining of his current Blues deal, is unhappy that the club have not secured his long-term future.
Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri has already indicated that he sees Terry as a future club captain and the player insists he is not being greedy with his wage demands and does not expect to be in the same financial bracket as Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink and Marcel Desailly.
But Terry is frustrated that no-one from Chelsea has approached him to hold talks over extending his stay even though he has just had his best season in helping them qualify for the Champions League.
Terry said: "My future? You probably know more than me! The chairman and Chelsea said they were going to get back to me in the summer. They haven't so I honestly haven't got a clue.
"I hope we can agree something because obviously I love Chelsea, but if things can't be resolved then I'm going to have to look out for my own future. I've not heard anything from the club.
"There are other players there in the same position - Gianfranco Zola, Jody Morris, Ed de Goey. They're important players to the club."
On the playing side Terry admits to adopting a new attitude this season after his well-publicised off-the-field exploits and charges arising out of an alleged brawl in a Knightsbridge nightclub of which he was subsequently cleared.
Terry admitted: "Last summer I had a chat with a few people. I knew I had to sort myself out to be honest. I've obviously made mistakes and I hold my hand up to that. I had to have a good look at myself.
"I spoke to my brother, my mum and dad and I knew I had to knuckle down. It was something I dreamed of, to be a professional footballer and I had to start acting in the right way.
"If I had looked after myself different, then possibly I might have had a chance of going to the World Cup. But that's over with now and I'm looking towards the next World Cup. That's my real target now.
"I've really knuckled down this year. I've been doing a lot of extra work before and after training, just looking after my body and eating well, and I feel a lot better for it."
