Ten new SARS deaths reported in China

The Chinese health ministry has reported 10 new Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) deaths and 80 new cases.

Five deaths were in Beijing, three in Inner Mongolia and one each in Tianjin and Shanxi.

It takes the nationwide death toll to 262 and the cumulative number of cases to 5,086.

Twenty-one provinces reported no new cases, including Guangdong where SARS originated in November.

Beijing now has recorded 134 deaths and 2,347 confirmed cases.

An additional 84 new suspected cases were noted nationwide, taking to the total to 2,412. Of these, 35 were in Beijing which has now reported 1,765 suspected cases.
