A 17-year-old girl is in hospital being treated for serious head injuries after she was involved in a road accident in Co Tipperary early this morning.

The teenager was travelling in a minibus with 13 other people when it collided with two stray horses at 2am.

The accident happened at Ballinlough on the N7, near Monegall.

A local Garda spokesman said nine of the teenage passengers were taken to Nenagh General Hospital for treatment.

The 17-year-old girl was transferred to Cork University Hospital for surgery and her condition is said to be critical but stable.
