Teacher's guilty plea to sex offences

A CO Clare school teacher yesterday pleaded guilty to 14 sexual offences against a teenage girl.

A CO Clare school teacher yesterday pleaded guilty to 14 sexual offences against a teenage girl.

At Ennis Circuit Court the man, aged 60 – who cannot be named for legal reasons – pleaded guilty to 10 counts of the sexual exploitation and four of the defilement of the girl who was aged 15 in relation to 11 of the 14 charges.

In relation to seven of the counts, the man pleaded guilty to sexually exploiting the girl at a school between September 15th, and October 20th, 2009.

Counsel for the man, Michael Collins said that “this is the first time the case has been on the list and my client has pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity”.

Judge Carroll Moran said: “I appreciate the plea of guilty at the earliest opportunity.” Judge Moran adjourned the case for the defendant to reappear before Ennis Circuit Court on March 21st.
