A TD has called for an investigation into the recent death of a 41-year-old woman at Naas General Hospital.
He said the young mother was told when she was seen at the hospital's A&E unit on September 3rd that she probably had food poisoning and was given antibiotics and sent home.
She was in pain for a number of days and returned to the hospital's A&E department just over a week later, where it was discovered she had a perforated bowel. She died shortly afterwards.
Green Party TD John Gormley said it was "a very tragic case" and he believed the hospital should carry out an investigation.
Yesterday a spokeswoman for the HSE said it was in discussions with the dead woman's family.
