A taxi driver was shot dead in north Belfast last night. The man was killed at Hesketh Road, Ardoyne, shortly after 11.30 p.m. the RUC said.

An eye-witness said she heard a single gunshot.

Meanwhile, army technical experts were called to examine a suspect device placed on a windowsill at Ballinamore, Ballymoney, Co Antrim. Several houses were evacuated.
