SIPTU miners at Tara have voted by three to one for strike action over the continued use of contract workers at the Navan plant. SIPTU regional secretary Mr Mike Jennings accused the company yesterday of breaching the agreement which averted closure of the mine last February.

However, the general manager at Tara Mines, Mr John Kelly, said production targets could only be met with the use of contract miners. He hoped talks could resume at the Labour Relations Commission before there was any industrial action.
