The Taoiseach has sent his congratulations to Mahmoud Abbas on his recent victory in the Palestinian Presidential election.
Mr Ahern, wrote to Mr Abbas and pledged Ireland's ongoing support to bring an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In his letter the Taoiseach commended Mr Abbas and other Palestinian leaders on their success in ensuring stability in the period since President Arafat's death, and wished Mr Abbas every success for the future.
Mr Abbas was elected president of the Palestinian Authority following his victory in last Saturday's poll.
