The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern will tonight ask that Fianna Fáil voters give their second preference vote to Progressive Democrat candidates.
Speaking in Kinsale tonight, the Taoiseach will say it is not possible for anyone to get an overall majority and that he would like to see the current Fianna Fáil/Progressive Democrat coalition Government continue.
Ms Mary Harney, the PD leader, said earlier today she was not recommending party supporters to give second preferences to any specific party.
